Colin Jost is recalling the time he went dumpster diving — all in the name of saving the day for his wife Scarlett Johansson.
While hosting an episode of Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Amazon Prime Video, the comedian, 42, revealed that Johansson, 40, once lost her engagement ring. When the actress told him she thought she might have “accidentally” thrown the ring in the trash, Jost heroically jumped into action.
“I looked through 12 dumpsters of trash,” he said on the game show, explaining that he ultimately had no luck finding the missing jewelry.
Jost then shared the story’s hilarious ending twist. “I went back to the house and she said, ‘Oops! It was in my pocket,’ ” he said, joking, “It was a great day for me.”

The Saturday Night Live star and Johansson tied the knot in October 2020 after first being romantically linked in 2017. They share a 3-year-old son, Cosmo, along with the actress’ daughter Rose Dorothy, 10, from her previous marriage to ex Romain Dauriac.
Last year, Johansson gushed about Jost while reminiscing about the 40th birthday party he threw for her. During a Nov. 26 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, she described her husband as “a very, very, very great guy.”
“I’m extremely lucky,” she continued. “He’s a kind person and he’s hilarious and thoughtful and loving and he’s a great dad and I love him. I feel very, very lucky.”

The Asteroid City star then went on to joke that Jost also has a “naughty side” — and she explained that includes his decision to team up with his former SNL costar Pete Davidson to buy a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry. The pair plan to transform the vessel into a traveling hotel, with several restaurants and bars.

Back in April 2023, Johansson revealed the “fundamental” secret to her marriage with Jost while appearing on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast.
“I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from somebody else,” she told Paltrow, 52, at the time. “I never realized, ‘Oh, it’s really important for me, I need to be with a compassionate person. That’s a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.’ ”
She continued: “And I think that understanding what those fundamental things are that you need in a partner is a must, I think — for longevity, anyway. I think identifying those things was a game-changer for me.”
With Jost, Johansson explained, she was “finally able to step back and actually respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental] things were and be okay with it.”
“That was a life lesson,” she added.
