If you play your games on PC, your fingers probably know the way to many shortcuts that you use irrespective of the game you’re currently playing. One such combination, in particular, has been used and abused by many of us when things got a little out of hand in-game.
I’m talking, of course, about Alt-F4, which immediately closes the app and takes you to your desktop. Monster Hunter Wilds, however, introduces a simple way to perhaps stop you from doing so reflexively.
Nobody starts a game with the intention of rage quitting, of course, but I am not ashamed to say I have made use of Alt-F4 while playing games before. Sometimes you’re just so incensed that you can’t even imagine taking a minute or so to save, quit to main menu and properly exit your game.
Under the Controls section in Monster Hunter Wild’s Options menu on PC, there’s a setting to disable Alt-F4 Force Quit. It’s sadly not called Anti-Rage Quit, but we’ll take it. When set to On, pressing both buttons won’t actually close the game, which is a certain type of power I didn’t even know individual apps/games could have over a universal Windows shortcut such as that.
For your convenience, that screen also appears in Wild’s initial setup, so you can get it sorted before you can even create your character. The same screen also has an option to disable the Windows Key, which has become pretty standard these days. Now, the only way to rush your way out of the game is to press the physical restart or power button on your PC case. No in-game setting can sadly stop you from doing that.
