Andrew Garfield didn’t believe Charlie Cox was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so they risked recognition by hanging out near the set in Atlanta

The period before, during, and after Spider-Man: No Way Home’s production was crazy to say the least, and it seems that even Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Charlie Cox (Daredevil) tried to guess if they were in the movie by reading the Hollywood trades and fan sites.

During an interview with Marvel (via Variety) to promote the arrival of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney Plus on March 4, Cox revealed that former roommate and longtime friend Andrew Garfield didn’t believe he was in the movie at first.

“I pretty much knew he was in the film because I read all the stuff online. He’s an old friend of mine. I texted him: ‘If the trades are to be believed then we are in the same movie.’ And he’s like: ‘I don’t think so, dude. I’m doing Spider Man.’ So I was like: ‘Yeah, so am I.’ And he replied: ‘You’re not in my script.’ Well I’m in my script!” The actor had said in the past he’s often aware of whatever the chatter is online, unlike other big names who prefer to stay away from the noise. This pushed him to try to get the secret out of Garfield, who, as you can read, immediately confirmed the rumours to him.

Things in the anecdote get funnier when Cox explained they went out to grab a bite in Atlanta before realizing they maybe had messed up big time: “We were just like, ‘Where should we meet?’ and ‘Let’s go here.’ And we showed up to this restaurant. And we walked in. And then we both had this moment of like, ‘Oh… This is not a good look.’ There was a table that had two chairs facing the wall. So we sat facing the wall and tried not to look at each other.” Awkward.

Everyone knew No Way Home’s secrets had been poorly guarded by the time the movie opened in theaters. Still, some of those surprises sounded unbelievable until we finally saw it.

While Cox and Garfield’s short trip to a nearby restaurant didn’t ruin anything, the previous live-action Spider-Man actor has already said he screwed up all by himself at other point during the shoot by ordering DoorDash and utterly failing to hide his face. “Now everyone thinks I’m rude. And they know I’m in Atlanta. I just blew it on multiple levels,” he said of the incident.
