Chris Pratt Says He’s Still ‘Very Close’ with the Parks & Rec Cast

Chris Pratt still has a bond with his former Parks and Recreation cast members, exactly 10 years after the show’s end.

On the red carpet in Los Angeles for his upcoming film The Electric Slate on Tuesday night, Feb. 24, the actor reflected on how the smash-hit comedy show impacted his career for the better. Parks and Recreation, which focused on the antics of the staff inside the department at a small-town Indiana city hall, began in 2009 and released its final episode on Feb. 24, 2015.

Pratt, who played Andy Dwyer, shared that he regularly keeps in contact with his Parks and Recreation “family.”

“I’m still very close and text with those guys almost every day,” Pratt, 45, said. “It was just Aziz’s birthday!”

Parks and Recreation coming to an end was a complex moment in Pratt’s career, he added. He felt mixed emotions — bittersweetness and anticipation — about closing that chapter.

“I was sad to be letting go [of] that character in that family, and at the same time, eager to move forward,” he said. The beloved series also starred Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, Retta, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Rashida Jones, Rob Lowe, Jim O’Heir and Aziz Ansari.

He noted that by the sitcom’s 2015 conclusion, he had already taken on big roles in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, so he was excited to see what other stories and characters his career would bring.

Pratt isn’t the only Parks and Recreation alumnus missing the show. Adam Scott, who played Ben Wyatt, recently opened up on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast about the sitcom — and why he hasn’t watched an episode “in a long time.”

“It makes me sad to see the show, because I miss them and I miss all the actors even though we’re constantly in touch and stuff, but I miss the time of making it,” he said. “It was a really just joyful five years — for me, seven years for the show — getting to go work there every day with that group of people.”
