Netflix’s big Tom Hardy-led action movie, Havoc, comes from the director of The Raid, and its first teaser trailer looks brutal

Netflix’s yearly output of movies and shows at this point is kind of mind-blowing, and the company has been paying special attention to the action genre in recent times, teaming up with all sorts of top-tier talent to develop hard-hitting flicks for the platform. The Tom Hardy-led action thriller Havoc, written and directed by The Raid’s Gareth Evans, has been in the works for a very long time, but it’s finally arriving this year, and its first trailer is a blast.

“After a drug deal gone wrong, a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unravelling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city,” the official plot synopsis reads. It sounds rather generic, doesn’t it? But as usual, it all comes down to the execution, and Evans excels at making his action movies stand out. If you haven’t watched both The Raid and The Raid 2 yet, get on those ASAP. Apostle (also for Netflix) was kind of neat too, but far weirder. For now, however, you should just watch Havoc’s teaser trailer below:

Shotguns to the face? A washing machine being dropped on top of a police car mid-chase? All sorts of punching and cutting nameless goons down? And it all actually looks textured and well-rehearsed? Sign us the hell up. The best part is that we won’t have to wait very long to watch it: Havoc is coming to Netflix on April 25.

Of course, the fact Havoc has a pretty sweet cast sweetens the deal. You can expect to see Tom Hardy, Jessie Mei Li, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Luis Guzmán, Michelle Waterson, Sunny Pang, Jim Caesar, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Yeo Yann Yann, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker in this one. As for the percentage of characters who will make it out alive, I’d say the number is pretty low, because Evans has to do his thing.

Folks who keep tabs on what Hollywood is up to might be familiar with this movie even if this is the first time we’ve gotten a proper look at it. After all, it started shooting all the way back in summer 2021. It then remained deep in post-production and nearly finished for like two years; Evans said it needed reshoots, but then the SAG-AFTRA strikes happened. Last year, it got those reshoots, and here we are. Let’s hope the final result isn’t a jumbled mess!
