Fico: The European Union is the second loser in the Ukraine war

Bratislava – The European Union (EU) will have to quickly sober up from the “military madness” and realize that it must be sovereign in its opinions and attitudes in order to survive. This was stated by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) in response to the phone call of American President Donald Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin and he stated that the EU is “the second loser” besides Ukraine. This is reported by TASR.

According to Fico, the European Union knows nothing about the relations between the USA and Russia. He criticizes the EU for going into a total offensive in the war in Ukraine. According to Fico, Trump and Putin will decide what happens in Ukraine.

“In the EU, we don’t even know what is actually happening in the relations between the USA and Russia, which are absolutely decisive for ending the military conflict. I don’t know if it sounds a bit embarrassing when some EU member states and EU institutions today are demanding a place at the negotiating table for peace,” said Fico in a statement sent to TASR from the Government Office of the Slovak Republic.

The Prime Minister claims that today in the EU, those who “steadfastly” supported more and more killing in Ukraine are defenseless. “After all the military behavior of the EU as a peace project, how much money and love they gave to Ukraine, today no one talks to the EU,” added the Prime Minister.

Fico reminded that after the phone call with Putin, Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and informed him about what was coming. “For example, something as unimaginable as democratic elections. No one calls us in the EU. No one calls the President of the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament. The EU will have to quickly sober up from the military madness and realize that it must be sovereign in its opinions and positions to survive,” he declared.

According to Fico, besides Ukraine, the EU is the second loser. “This is solely because to this day it has no own opinion on fundamental foreign policy issues,” he said, adding that in the war in Ukraine, the Union has just blindly followed the administration of former US President Joe Biden.

According to Fico, President Trump will demand back from Ukraine everything that Biden gave to Ukraine in support of the war. “He will force Europe to take even more gas and oil from the USA, and at the end of the day, he will tell NATO allies that unless they are kind enough to brutally increase their defense spending, for example to five percent of GDP, they should kindly forget about NATO’s Article 5,” the Slovak Prime Minister thinks. “President Putin will be left with territory in Ukraine that he controls militarily and a guarantee that Ukraine will never be a NATO member. And what about Ukraine? It will lose a third of its territory, natural resources, it will never be in NATO and there will be foreign armies on its territory,” he added.

Putin and Trump held an official phone call on Wednesday (February 12) for the first time since the Republican took office and agreed on the immediate start of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. (February 13)
