Sarajevo, (Fena) – Ambassador of Hungary to Bosnia and Herzegovina Krisztian Posa stated in Sarajevo that his country was admitted into the European Union with the constitution of 1949.

In a lecture at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Sarajevo, Ambassador Posa explained that the European Union did not impose the amendment of that state’s constitution as a condition and admitted Hungary to full membership in 2004, while the constitution was amended in 2011 when a necessary two-thirds majority in parliament was present.

He added that during Hungary’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024, special emphasis is placed on the Western Balkan countries, as well as during their first presidency in 2011.

Posa stated that during their presidency in 2024, Albania started negotiations with the EU while Montenegro closed three chapters of negotiations, which he considers a great success for the entire Western Balkan region.

He assessed the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary as excellent with intense bilateral ties and a constant effort to improve cooperation.

– For Hungary, it is very important that this region is stable because we are your “honorary neighbors” and only 70 kilometers separate us – said Posa.
