Gaza, Ukraine, USA: enr reporters had many questions for Kaja Kallas

A new EU Commission in office since January, ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East and, since 20 January, a new US President whose plans have a major impact on the daily news cycle: It must be a very busy time for the EU’s new High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. Nevertheless, the Estonian-born Vice-President of the EU Commission took the time for a wide-ranging interview with the European Newsroom.

Tim Kohnen from the enr team and eight journalists from the enr’s 23 participating agencies joined Kaja Kallas in the virtual interview room: Representatives from ANSA (Italy), AMNA (Greece), AFP (France), Agerpres (Romania), TT (Sweden), Lusa (Portugal), CTK (Czechia) and dpa (Germany). Other agencies had submitted their questions, which their colleagues attending the video interview asked on their behalf – a very good example of the collegiality and team spirit of the agencies in the European Newsroom.

Among other things, they asked Kaja Kallas about her position on the EU’s relationship with the new US administration, the situation in Gaza, the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, as well as topics relating to Serbia, Romania, Syria and conflicts in Africa. The agencies’ reporting was well picked up in the European media, and the enr team produced three key stories for the European Newsroom, which can be found here.
